India raised objections on Saturday,
expressing its disapproval of the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane
Marriott's visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The visit, which took place
on January 10 with the accompaniment of a UK Foreign Office official, was
viewed by India as a violation of its "sovereignty and territorial
integrity."
The Ministry of External Affairs in
India, represented by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, conveyed a "strong
protest" to the British High Commissioner, deeming the visit as
"unacceptable." As of now, the UK Foreign Office has not provided any
comments in response to the raised concerns.
This diplomatic incident unfolded amid forthcoming elections in both India and Pakistan. The enduring Kashmir conflict involves territorial disputes between the two nuclear-armed nations and has been a longstanding source of tension since their independence in 1947.
