Australia is on the verge of a commanding
Test series whitewash against Pakistan as the visitors struggled, reaching a
precarious 68-7 in their second innings in Sydney on Friday.
The downfall for Pakistan in the second
innings was evident, losing two wickets for a mere run. Opener Abdullah
Shafique and Captain Shan Masood both departed without contributing to the
scoreboard. Despite a brief resurgence with a partnership of 57 runs between
Babar Azam (23) and Saim Ayub (33) for the third wicket, Pakistan's hopes
dwindled.
The match took a dramatic turn as
Pakistan collapsed, losing five wickets for just nine runs, plummeting to a
challenging 67-7. Australia asserted control, with pacer Josh Hazlewood
delivering a pivotal performance by claiming three wickets in the penultimate
over of the day. Saud Shakeel (2), Sajid Khan (0), and Agha Salman (0) fell
victim to Hazlewood's fiery spell, leaving Pakistan on the backfoot and facing
an uphill battle to avoid a series whitewash.
