LAHORE: The 28th Death Anniversary of the famous actor of Punjabi cinema, Sultan Rahi will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 9th.
Sultan Rahi was a famous hero of Punjabi cinema in the 1980s. He dominated the film industry for his 15 years, appearing in more than 700 films and playing the role of the heroic Sultan in 500 films, setting a world record. Rahi's name is in the Guinness Book of World Records.
He has acted in around 703 Punjabi films and 100 Urdu films and won around 160 awards. Sultan Muhammad, also known as Sultan Rahi, was born in his year 1938. He started his film career in 1959 as a guest actor in the film Baaghi. The success of the 1971 film Babul and his 1972 Punjabi film Basila made him a superstar.
His film 'Mola Jat' set box office records. His other successful films include Sara Sahib, Chanvrayam, Atra Putra, Maleghazalam Kabhadra, Wasi Jat, Sheer Khan, Shawl, Akirijan, Jarnail Singh, Seerande His Putra, etc.
Sultan Rahi also received this honor. On August 12, 1981, five of his films were released on the same day: Shere Khan, Zaram Da Bhadra, Atiraputra, Chan Valiyam, and Sara Sahib. He has five children, including an actor. Sultan Rahi was shot dead by unknown gunmen on January 9, 1996 near Gujranwala. He was buried on January 14, 1996 in Shah Shams Qadri Mausoleum, Lahore.
