Citizens in Punjab are urging the
provincial government to grant a further extension to school winter vacations
due to the prevailing dense fog and severe cold wave. Originally scheduled to
resume on January 10, 2024, schools in Punjab had an extended winter break
until January 9, 2024. However, parents, concerned about the harsh weather
conditions, are now advocating for an additional extension to safeguard
students from weather-related health issues.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister, Mohsin
Naqvi, has clarified that the government has not yet made a decision regarding
any further extension. He emphasized that the possibility of additional
holidays would be considered based on recommendations from the education
department. Naqvi also expressed apprehension about the escalating smog levels,
highlighting that Lahore and other cities are leading the unfortunate ranking
of areas with poor air quality.
